European eSafety Forum Gains Momentum but eCall Deadline will Slip from 2009 to 2011 by Strategy AnalyticsDuring 2005, there has been a significant gearing up of the work and initiatives being undertaken by the European public sector-led eSafety Forum Working Groups (WGs). The announced objective of 2009 for the incorporation of eCall telematics on all new cars is however unlikely to be met. Strategy Analytics’ view is that 2011, at the earliest, is more realistic timescale. Infrastructure development issues will be the greatest factor inhibiting eCall telematics roll out. In Jul-05 the Nomadic Device Forum (NDF) was also formally launched as a result of eSafety Forum activities. As with cellular phone use in the vehicle, it can be expected that, within 2 years, use of other personal devices – including iPods, PDAs and personal navigation devices (PNDs) - will also become subject to handsf ree legislation.More info: http://www.strategyanalytics.net/default.aspx?mod=ReportAbstractViewer&a0=2631
