Creative Start of Competence InventoryOne of the objectives for Telematics Valley is to create new business and employment opportunities in the region. To accomplish this one important question to answer is what kind of competence is needed long-term in order to create sustainable growth. People from Mecel, HiQ, Caran, Gatespace, QR Tech, Viktoria Institute and Arbetsförmedlingen gathered recently to discuss this question. The group came to the conclusion that what is needed is people with broader knowledge and skills. There is a lack of persons who understand not only vehicle telematics, but mobile applications in general. People who understand how to identify user needs and how to design attractive, functional and economically sound products are also wanted. The area also needs technical people who can combine electro and mechanical engineering and IT, and who understands how to create platforms for various kinds of services not only those inside the vehicle. Arbetsförmedlingen will do an inventory of what kinds of competences telematics-oriented companies in the region are interested in. This will be used as a basis for designing a competence development program for unemployed people with an academic degree. The program will be project-oriented and probably arranged by a university. The group also came to the conclusion that it is important to make it easier for the members in Telematics Valley to distribute their knowledge about their specialties. This will make it possible for more people to broaden their competence, and apply this to generate new ideas concerning how to combine various kinds of products and technologies, and how to demonstrate real user value.
