New Bluetooth requirements provide ETL SEMKO with a unique position on the marketNew Bluetooth requirements provide ETL SEMKO with a unique position on the marketFrom 1 January 2003, all RF (Radio Frequency) performance tests must only be carried out by a BQTF – a Bluetooth Qualification Test Facility. ETL SEMKO is one of only about ten laboratories in the world to hold this distinction. “Björn Rosenquist, Head of Radio & EMC at ETL SEMKO, what does this mean in practice?” “These new requirements for RF tests give ETL SEMKO a unique position on the market, as we are one of only a few labs that are allowed to carry out these tests. As a BQTF, we have an accredited testing laboratory with a validated testing system for Bluetooth.” There are nine multinational giants behind Bluetooth, including Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Nokia and Toshiba. It is estimated that within a few years, Bluetooth solutions will be found in several billion products. Up until August this year, ETL SEMKO had qualified 23 Bluetooth products for companies such as Ericsson, National Semiconductor and Motorola. All producers of wireless Bluetooth products must have their products approved by an authorised and impartial body, a Bluetooth Qualification Body (BQB). ETL SEMKO was among the first testing laboratories to be BQB approved. In June 2002, it came as no surprise that ETL SEMKO qualified as a BQTF by appointment of the Bluetooth Qualification Review Board. As well as the qualification itself, all Bluetooth products must meet the regulative requirements in the countries where they will be sold. “Our One-Stop-Shopping concept helps our customers to have their products tested and certified in one process,” explains Björn. “It is a clear competitive advantage for us as a supplier to handle everything from testing to certification. These products reach the market more quickly, no matter where in the world the launch takes place.” For further information about Bluetooth, please contact Jenny Thomsson on +46 (0)8- 750 03 91 or at jenny.thomsson@semko.se
